WHAT IS BULLYING?

Bullying is both behaviour and impact; the impact is on a person’s capacity to feel in control of themselves.  This is what we term as their sense of ‘agency’. Bullying takes place in the context of relationships; it is behaviour that can make people feel hurt, threatened, frightened and left out. This behaviour happens face to face and online (Respect Me, 2015).

WHAT IS BEARSDEN ACADEMY’S APPROACH TO BULLYING?

There is a clear policy for the school, which is based on the policy of the Local Authority. Bullying incidents are recorded, to allow clear escalation where concerns persist.

The policy takes account of the views of all involved in a bullying incident to ensure the best possible outcome for all involved.

Tackling bullying requires the participation of all, and the school relies on the support and intervention of parents as well as young people to identify and deal with bullying.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW AS A PARENT/CARER?

Our Guidance teachers and Year Heads are available to discuss and concerns around bullying.

Please always discuss with us as soon as a concern arises - by following the policy, we are able to resolve many incidents quickly for all young people involved.
