WHAT IS POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR?

All young people come to school expecting to have a great opportunity to learn - this is in line with our approach as a Rights Respecting School.

To support this, the school operates a policy of rewarding positive engagement in class, and having sanctions for negative engagement. This is outlined in the positive behaviour policy.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Teachers will challenge learners to work hard in class to reach the best possible outcomes every lesson. Where this happens, teachers will reward learners with merits, praise referrals and positive feedback.

Where pupils require conversations and discussion around expectations, this is recorded through demerits, referrals and, if necessary, sanctions such as detentions.

Parents are informed of this through text alerts, and contact to home via Year Heads or Guidance teachers.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW AS A PARENT/CARER?

Any updates on merits/demerits should be texted to you. Where a concern about engagement arises, this will be followed up by correspondence with Guidance teachers and Year Heads.

The purpose of this work is to promote the positive steps that all young people can take to ensure that they get the best out of every class. We rely on the support of our whole community to get the best out of every day!
